Your Stockholm garden furniture set is made to stand up to the outdoors — but with a little routine care, you can keep it looking its best for up to two decades. Here's everything you need to know about maintaining your frame and polyspun cushions through every season.
Wintering your furniture
Polyrattan is tough enough to stay outside all year round, but we recommend bringing your Stockholm set indoors during winter wherever you can. A shed or outbuilding offers the best protection from harsh weather and will help extend the life of your furniture.
If outdoor storage is your only option, use a breathable furniture cover to protect the frame. It's also worth moving the set every few months to clean underneath and prevent any build-up of dirt or damp beneath the legs.
Even if the frame stays outside, always bring your cushions indoors during winter or any prolonged spells of harsh weather. A cover alone won't keep them in their best condition.
Cleaning the rattan frame
Remove all cushions from the furniture before you begin.
Fill a bucket with lukewarm, soapy water and use a soft sponge or cloth to gently wipe down the rattan frame.
Rinse away any soap with cold water and leave to air dry completely.
Never use a pressure washer on polyrattan. This is because the force can damage the weave. Avoid abrasive or chemical cleaning products too, unless specifically recommended by a professional.
Caring for your cushions
Your Stockholm cushions are made from high quality fabric which is durable and easy to maintain with a little regular attention.
Day-to-day maintenance
For everyday upkeep, simply brush off loose dirt and debris with a soft-bristled brush, or run a vacuum cleaner over the fabric on a gentle setting.
Dealing with spills
Act quickly and blot the affected area gently with a clean cloth or sponge dampened with mild soapy water. Avoid scrubbing as this can spread the stain further. Once treated, rinse with clean water and leave to air dry.
Deep cleaning
For a more thorough clean, apply warm soapy water with a sponge or soft brush, working it gently into the fabric. Rinse well to remove all soap residue, then allow the cushion to dry fully in the open air before putting it back on the furniture.
We recommend handwashing polyspun cushions in a bowl of warm, soapy water, followed by a rinse in plain water. If you prefer to machine wash, use the gentlest cycle available.
