How to care for your Palma Rattan Garden Furniture Set

How to care for your Palma Rattan Garden Furniture Set

Everything you need to know to keep your polyrattan set looking its best, season after season.

Your Palma garden furniture set is built to last but a little care goes a long way. With the right maintenance routine, your set can stay in beautiful condition for up to two decades. Here's how to look after every part of it, from the rattan frame to the cushions and the glass tabletop.

Wintering your furniture

Polyrattan is tough enough to live outside all year round but where possible, we recommend bringing your set indoors during winter. A shed or outbuilding is ideal for protecting the frame from harsh weather and extending its life.

If outdoor storage is your only option, use Palma Custom-Fitted Furniture Cover to shield the set from rain and frost. It's also worth moving the furniture every few months to clean the area underneath and prevent any build-up of dirt or damp.

Always store cushions indoors during winter or periods of harsh weather — even if the frame stays outside. A breathable cover alone isn't enough to keep cushions in their best condition.

Cleaning the rattan frame

Cleaning the frame couldn't be simpler. Here's all you need to do:

  1. Remove all cushions from the furniture before you start.
  2. Fill a bucket with lukewarm, soapy water and use a soft sponge or cloth to gently wipe down the rattan.
  3. Rinse away any soap residue with cold water and allow to air dry.

Never use a pressure washer on polyrattan, the force can damage the weave. Avoid abrasive or chemical cleaning products too, unless specifically recommended by a professional.

Caring for your olefin cushions

Your Palma cushions are made from olefin: a durable, weather-resistant fabric. Here's how to keep them in great shape.

Day-to-day maintenance

For regular upkeep, simply brush off any loose dirt and debris with a soft-bristled brush, or use a vacuum cleaner on a gentle setting.

Dealing with spills

Act quickly and blot the affected area gently with a clean cloth or sponge dampened with mild soapy water. Avoid scrubbing as it can spread the stain. Once treated, rinse the area with clean water and leave it to air dry.

Deep cleaning

For a more thorough clean, apply warm soapy water with a sponge or soft brush, working it gently into the fabric. Rinse well to remove any soap residue, then allow the cushion to dry fully in the open air before use.

We recommend handwashing olefin cushions in a bowl of warm, soapy water. If you prefer to machine wash, use the gentlest cycle possible — however, please note that machine washing is done at your own discretion, and MINT cannot accept responsibility for any shrinkage or distortion that may result.

Looking after the glass tabletop

Your Palma set features a tempered glass tabletop which is highly durable and scratch-resistant, but worth treating with a care nonetheless.

For everyday cleaning, wipe the surface with a soft fabric cloth and mild soapy water, or use a specialist glass cleaner. Always dry the surface thoroughly afterwards to avoid watermarks.

While tempered glass is designed to resist scratches, avoid placing sharp or rough objects directly on the surface, and never sit or stand on it.

If a minor scratch does appear, clean the area thoroughly first with a soft cloth. Then apply a small amount of ordinary toothpaste to a cloth and buff gently in circular motions for a few minutes. Rinse with water — this can help reduce the appearance of light surface scratches.

Treat your Palma set well and it will reward you with years of relaxed outdoor living. If you have any questions about caring for your furniture, our team is always happy to help.
